Blog 3

Growing up, I have always believed that the cause of slavery was racism towards towards African Americans. Perhaps naïvely, I thought that American decided to start using this new idea of forced labor against blacks, not whites, because of their prejudice stance on the color of their skin. After reading the Painter chapters, I my idea of slavery got completely turned around. If it wasn't for the economic need for slavery, Africans would have never been put into the racism spotlight as they did. The British believed that by using slavery, their economy would boost and flourish with all the new extra help they'd be getting. As economy as their backbone, slavery began. From there, slavery became a lifestyle. Black skin now became known as in-superior, which lead to the country's racists views.
