The most shocking thing I took away from this video was how lynching had turned into almost a community event. Families would show up and watch together and it would be no big deal. "Without Santuary" Opened my eyes to a differant side of this horrible act that I had not seen before. I did not know so many people would watch this happen, and that it could happen to both me and women.
What gave people the right to do this and why was it so casually experienced. Society had a warped opinion of what African Americans were, and treated them like animals, when White Men would do whatever they wanted. It was like food at a grocery store hung for all to see.
How cruel, and horrible a thing that people thought so highly of themselves, as to treat others in such a way. Maybe this is why we learn little about it in school, we should be ashamed of this treatment, and how cruel we treated African Americans.
