I think that many people feel as though the slave trade was based off of racism, but I believe that economics played the larger part. Slave owners did not have racism in mind when they enslaved the native African people. They saw how they were able to nurture and cultivate the land and were also very strong, and know that they would prosper financially if they were able to use them and their farming knowledge. Slavery was able to fund the European slave owners when it came to buying property (including slaves) allowing them to grow and expand and the money from slavery gave them power. But i do believe that slavery was the cause of racism and the ideas of racism.
