Blog Question #4
When studying history, people often wonder if humanity as a whole has in fact learned from its mistakes. After viewing the movie "Without Sanctuary" I could not help but ask this question. Since my elementary education regarding slavery I have been aware of lynching and what it entailed. However, I was certainly unaware of the popularity it held among the people carrying them out. To think hundreds of people came to watch the desecration of African Americans was certainly surprising to me. Furthermore, I could not help but think of how the Romans would congregate to watch slaves fight to the death as a means of entertainment. And so I wonder if this comparison is legitimate or not and if humans have in fact changed their basic ways. To think this went on in the manner in which did sadly suggests we as a people have not come very far.
